Fiona Roest

Consultant at ITC Groep

Fiona has been working for the ITC Group as a consultant since May 2017. She can use her passion for writing in her work as she translates contractors’ ideas into concrete plans in a convincing manner. Her journalism skills – which she acquired while working for RTL News and PowNews, among others – are very useful for that task. She believes that writing a convincing plan starts with thorough research. Visiting project sites and talking with people in the surrounding area are among the aspects of her work she likes best. According to Fiona, this is what brings a project to life and helps to really understand problems of or in the environment. As she writes, she wants to strike right chord, making it impossible for a client to ignore the plan.

In her spare time, Fiona enjoys a relaxing drink and a dance with friends. From an early age already, she has had a great love of dancing. From modern dance to hip hop and everything in between, she likes it all. However, classical ballet is where her heart really lies. Another great love is travelling. For example, after she obtained her master’s degree, she went backpacking in Asia. Every holiday, she chooses a new destination and there are still many of them on her wish list.

What is your favourite project of all the projects you have done so far?
My favourite project so far is the Replacement of the Sewer System at ’s Gravenwetering in Rotterdam. That was a relatively small-scale project, but no less important in my opinion, because of the environment. You see, the street is home to a retirement home and a school for special education. When I arrived on site, I saw many taxi vans in the narrow streets. That’s how I knew that opening up the street would have a major impact on the environment. By consulting with the residents of the retirement home, the special education teachers and other residents, we were able to come up with good solutions and concrete measures. And that is what makes it a great project in my eyes. I can proudly say that I made a difference.

Why did you decide to start working for the ITC Group?
Stephana gave me the ITC virus. We got to know each other as students at the Erasmus University Rotterdam and lived together in Rotterdam for a few years. We always remained friends. Every time I spoke to Stephana, she was very enthusiastic about her work. That made me decide to apply as well. And after my interview with Thomas I was sold. He told me about the way in which the ITC Group works, and what its core values are. I really wanted to be a part of that
