Joleen van der Toren

Environment Manager at ITC Groep

Joleen is environment manager and technical plan writer at the ITC Group. This means her weeks are always varied. For example, in the morning she is with contractors designing a phase and corresponding access solutions, in the afternoon, she monitors the environment management during a construction meeting, and in the evening, she presents new redevelopment plans to a group of interested residents.

In her spare time, Joleen also likes new challenges. Right now, she is actively training for triathlons. Since this means mastering three sports, it is always varied and challenging.

What is your favourite project of all the projects you have done so far?
One of my favourite current projects is the redevelopment of the Overmeer-Zuid neighbourhood. I drew up the tender for this project on behalf of the contractor. After it was awarded to us, I immediately joined as the environment manager in the implementation phase. The neighbourhood is very involved, and the local municipality has invested a lot of energy in resident participation during the preparatory phase. My job is to ensure from day one that the – very present – residents are happy that we’re there, understand what we’re doing and experience nuisance as little as possible. When the people who live closest to the work come by on Friday afternoon to bring you French fries and flowers, you know you’re doing well.

Why did you decide to start working for the ITC Group?
The variety of tasks and the possibilities within the company are the two biggest reasons why I started working for the ITC Group. There are many opportunities for career growth, which means new challenges and new perspectives. I love that: variation and new challenges
