Maintenance gardening and landscaping Vondelpark and Sarphatipark
In 2017, the municipality of Amsterdam put a request for maintenance gardening and landscaping on the market for the Vondelpark and Sarphatipark. With 10 million visitors per year, the Vondelpark is a popular park that is not only used for recreation, but also accommodates a main bicycle route. The Sarphatipark is a busy park as well, surrounded by homes, businesses and a primary school. In both parks, the contractor would have to work together with volunteers and the district team of the municipality.
For this tender, we collaborated with the contractor to find an approach to ensure that users of the Vondelpark and Sarphatipark would not be disturbed during maintenance activities. This was a point of concern for the municipality, since it was expecting a lot of complaints if visitors were disturbed. Together with the contractor, we also figured out how to align the needs, wishes and concerns of the volunteers and the district team. This was a point of concern for the client, as three parties would have to work in the same area at the same time. To uphold the quality of the maintenance while limiting the number of complaints as much as possible, good coordination was of great importance.
The approach we submitted in the tender resulted in a plan that “added a lot of value to the project and led to greater confidence” according to the evaluation committee. Earning the confidence of the client by telling a convincing story has in turn lead to being awarded the maximum score. The contractor was thus able to accept the project with a substantial lead over the seven competitors.
